Tumblr always seemed like some kind of cave to me. I liked the dark blue distanced intimacy of 37465c. I felt protected here and not bothered: it was up to me how far I wanted to expand. Great!
Tumblr was far ahead of its time with its minimalism - back then. It was a space that invited to experiment: everything was close together: mathematics, art, sex, politics, music, news, fashion, books. … Everything was a stone’s throw around the corner.
In the early days of the tumblr era, I even attended the tumblr meetings in Berlin, met people and dreamed of a connection between the analogue and digital worlds.
Thanks to tumblr I started this sub-blog to actively deal with the pornographic substructure at tumblr, but also in the whole net. I think it’s important to face things instead of looking away. I found an infinite number of women here who were searching for their own sexuality in the most diverse ways.
21.05.2013 Then tumblr was sold and a new wind blew through the blue corridors of the dashboard. It became slightly more colorful. Actually surprising.
Tumblr responsible people don’t talk much. They put you in front of a fait accompli: suddenly Tumblr belongs to Yahoo. (What does the Tumblr community have to do with Yahoo?)
The first curtain falls. Blogs disappear. Warnings are issued, but there is no explanation as to why inconspicuous videos are deleted. (I was affected several times.) Silence.
I would have liked to join in. One could have built in separees… I would have paid gladly, in order to escape the advertisement…
03.12.2018 Without prior warning, the so-called “community” is suddenly confronted with the bare facts within a period of 14 days. With an icy blow I realize what a hierarchical world I am in here. In such a short time it wasn’t even possible to look through my own blog to see whether the machines had “properly censored”… And all the open questions: what now? where to? No contact person. No help.
I was struck by the breathtaking speed with which thousands / probably hundreds of thousands of blogs have been shifted into sinking.
Why this sudden rush? What is behind it? No explanations.
Since 17.12.18 tumblr is now a cave with complicated back caves: all so-called adult contents were neutralized - made invisible. “Not deleted” as tumblr emphasizes again and again.
I sit there and stare at the shot and perforated archives.

The New Tumblr Cave System - An Example
The blog renhang.tumblr.com can’t be accessed from the outside anymore: a black (or pink) boiling soup appears (hell and not a cave?) and warns me (I’m over 50) that with the next look there might be something alarming.
I am redirected on the dashboard and something sluggish opens from the right the timeline. If I didn’t wait long enough, it was the end of my search. Again an empty area appears with the same warning.
Arrived in the timeline, many small empty areas open up again with a warning, which now leads me directly to the surveillance department.
Why this effort?
Ren Hang was lucky, by the way. Many members can no longer be found, not even via the search function. Only if they post and through the chat. No more archives!! Members who move at the interface between art and sexuality. Not porn.
But also Ren Hang has like all other sunken blogs no more individuality - but a pixelated logo - he belongs now in the squad of the “damned” (if we remain with the hell system) - these are small, but for me frightening forms of censorship and these are also hidden signs for the survivors: That could happen to you, too. Stick to the rules.
What happened if someone had to install such a multi-protected system?
There are “a bit censored”, “half censored” and “completely censored” missing blogs. I’ve been trying to find a system for days. There are also survivors who are completely undamaged. I belong to the only “slightly censored survivors”. I still kept my logo.
But I don’t know how long? After the authoritarian cleaning, the community is now asked to actively help with the cleaning actions, so that the machines can do this more effectively.
WOW! That makes me really speechless.
“Community” or silent mass
Tumblr writes: “Don’t forget too that you can download your content. It’s yours after all, and we don’t take that lightly.”
I never had the feeling that the content on tumblr “belongs” to me. Tumblr was and is a platform for sharing content.
What use is owning content if I can’t share it anymore because it’s invisible or just lying in a long queue in a complicated cave system?
I have the impression that those responsible for tumblr have captured and occupied the “community” like an empty phrase in an inflationary manner and have not noticed at all that actually hundreds of thousands of individuals have simply been pitilessly blown apart in all directions.
For what? For clean advertising space? For the expansion and reconquest of China? The most absurd scenarios come into my head.
For me, tumblr’s texts reveal that incompatible worlds meet here: old hierarchical ideas of exploitation of a silent mass and new (still somewhat immature) ideas of sharing of a community that is still searching.
But I also see this as an opportunity. Namely to take a closer look - I didn’t notice much during the lazy years in my cuddly tumblr cave.
In the brevity of the last 14 days I couldn’t find anything that corresponds to my ideas (aesthetic and “not hierarchical“), But I feel a need for change in the world. And that includes a body that feels the change in itself. And a good self-developed community - which seems indispensable for the future - I learned that thanks to this tumblr cleansing action.
Through the deletion of the bodies on tumblr, I suddenly became more aware that the outside world is also well advanced in the transformation of the bodiless shadow worlds.
